Originally conceived in 1997 as bachelor party entertainment before the nuptials of actors Bob Martin and Janet van de Graaff, Drowsy Chaperone lovingly spoofs Jazz Age musicals.  The show had a relatively quick trip to Broadway -- after Martin joined the original three creators to revise the show for the Toronto Fringe Festival in 1998, it went on to an expanded production in 1999, had a mainstage production at the Winter Garden Theatre in 2001, which led to a New York reading in 2004, followed by an out-of-town tryout in Los Angeles in 2005, and finally the show debuted on Broadway in 2006.  It has won 5 Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, and 7 Drama Desk awards.  Major productions have been mounted in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, London, and Japan, and the show has had two North American tours.
